The Queen’s great-granddaughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, officially turned one on June 4, 2022, during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration and we wanted to mark her milestone first royal birthday in the cutest possible way! It’s reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with big brother Archie will be marking the occasion with Queen Elizabeth II at Frogmore Cottage, their family residence on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
As the UK and royal fans around the world celebrate the Queen’s milestone Platinum Jubilee, all of us are excited to finally get a glimpse of the newest member of the Sussex family. While she was born in America, Lilibet is still the great-granddaughter of the current monarch, granddaughter of the future king-Prince Charles, and the niece of a future king- Prince William. Because of that status she has the privilege of getting a royal christening. Her brother Archie had his royal christening in Queen Elizabeth’s private chapel in Windsor Castle.
Speculation about Lilibet’s christening on her first birthday is at a fever pitch with commentators noting the Queen did not attend the Epsom Derby Race and is free to attend the private ceremony with the family where the Dean of Windsor could preside over the event. During the traditional ceremony, water from the Jordan River is used from the Lily Font which was made in 1840 to christen the royal baby into the Anglican Church.
Royal christenings normally occur within a few months of the baby’s birth and as royal tradition dictates all royal babies wear the historic gown made of Spitalfields silk and Honiton Lace. The gown was first made for Queen Victoria’s daughter in 1862 and was worn by 62 royal babies. As Lilibet prepares to follow in her big brother’s footsteps by wearing the beautiful lace outfit, the actual gown that her brother Archie wore was an exact replica. The almost-identical gown was created by The Queen’s senior dresser, Angela Kelly, and was also donned by their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
